i Pod Compatible Movies

With the advent of Apple's new 5th generation iPod and the ability of it to play video, I'm adding links to a few high resolution iPod compatible movies.

These movies are larger than the Apple Computer specified 320x240 for h.264 and 480x480 for MPEG-4. Apple publicly simplified these specs, but what are the real limitations are the pixel counts for each format:

h.264 - 76,800; max bit rate 768 kbps; 30 fps
MPEG-4 - 230,400; max bit rate 2500 kbps; 30 fps

With this in mind, it's possible to get resolutions as high as 624x352 as is the case with these movies. The movies on davePerry.net are actually much higher quality than what Apple offers for sale in its iTunes Music store which stick to the publicly stated 320x240 frame size.

Although these movies are large for web movies, they are very high quality and play back fantastically from the 5G iPod on its own screen and amazingly well when connected to a video monitor or TV set.
